Fellow Officials,
“Never in the field of human conflict, has so much been owed to so few by so many.” I trust everyone recognizes the immortal words of Winston Churchill, speaking about the RAF during the Battle of Britain.
Now that we have had our history lesson for the day, I’d like to ask you to step up and help us make our umpire association the best it can be. We need individuals to help in many, many different ways. We need leaders, we need worker bees, we need people who can help once a month, we need people who can help once a week and we need people who can help once a year.
Right now, we have people serving on multiple committees. I know at least four people who serve on at least three different committees for the association. I love those people but I don’t want them to feel overwhelmed. We have people who are hesitant to take leadership positions for fear of being ‘stuck’ with all the work. We want to avoid that. We want people to know that their talents are appreciated and their contributions will not go unnoticed. We have an incredible talent pool in our umpire association, and I hope we can tap into it.
Just to give you a brief peek into what we are looking for, check these out. Reach out to me if you want to be considered for anything here.
- Our training teams are outstanding, but we are always looking out for talented umpires willing to help our newest trainees.
- We are looking to significantly expand the ratings committee; again, please reach out if interested.
- The Blue Crew News is always looking for content, photographs and ideas.
- There are always ad hoc things that need to be taken care of; reach out if you can help.
And, remember – THANK YOU! This is your umpire association.
One final note – the assignors have asked me to send out a message regarding turnbacks and local rules. If you haven’t seen it yet, please be on the lookout. Upon receipt, please read it carefully and follow the instructions.
Our next association meeting is April 6th via Zoom. There is an important presentation about situation management on the agenda. Please remember, attendance at association meetings is expected.
Thanks.
Dave
