Former West Point Players Now Umpiring

By Collin Agee

I was a left handed pitcher at West Point from 1976 to 1979. The Army Baseball Team does a great job keeping in touch with their alumni, via e-mail, webinars, and this newsletter.

In this issue, I am mentioned in an article about Army Baseball players who became umpires. I umpired just a little bit for Babe Ruth when I was playing in college—with no training. That came more than two decades later in 2001, when I did rookie training with MAC. Having played and been a fan all my life, I thought I knew the rules. Boy, did I learn differently. If I had it all to do over again, I would have started umpiring as a teenager. I think it would have made me a better player, and what better job is there than getting paid for being outside and being part of our great sport?
