Fellow Officials,
As we wind down the dog days of August, I do have a couple of announcements for you.
First, once again, please remember the membership meeting on September 14th. There will be lots to go over.
We got some comments on the proposed constitutional updates. The link to those comments is below. The comments and our responses are both included; at the end of the day, we decided that we did not have to change anything in the document that we will vote on during the meeting on the 14th. Second, we have some important personnel announcements to make as well.
I would like to announce that Bob Nasser, Thomas Francis and Vin Vena have become, collectively, our rules interpreters. You will be hearing more from Bob, Thomas and Vin in the future. They have taken over for Greg McEvoy, who has stepped down from his role.
Greg, thanks so much for your service to NVBUA. As you can see, it’s taking three people to replace you!
My next announcement has to do with our training committee. Anthony Mayer has agreed to head up a new division within our team that deals specifically with technology. The benefit is that Anthony will use technology (mostly video) to assist the training team do their work which will provide enhanced training for everyone.
The last change I want to announce is a big one. We have lots of new members of the ratings committee.
I want to publicly say thank you to these folks. Their task starts in earnest once the fall season starts to wind down. They are Dave Stewart, Steven Hand, Tim Anderson, Matt Sauter, Jeff Alton, Vin Vena, Ron Adamczyk, Yang Xie, Marcus May, Kelly Norman, Tom Sherman, and Dwayne Montgomery. They join chairman Tim Strutzel, vice chairman Matt Van Parys and sub committee chairmen Darren Schuberg, Bob Nasser, and Anthony Mayer.
With such a large group, it is my firm belief that each umpire’s rating will get the attention it truly deserves, no matter where they are from or what level of games they are officiating.
We hope to have more announcements regarding ratings in the September meeting; they aren’t quite ready for prime time yet. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your summer. Fall ball is coming soon.
See you in the fall,
Dave Maher
