Greetings My Fellow Men in “Blue”,
We’ve been working hard to wrap up a successful spring season here at BCN. It’s been a bit since I’ve been at the helm for an issue, but Robert deserves time to travel with his family! We’re all human after all!
Summer ball is in full swing and what I’ve seen is that it changes what time you’re working, not always how much you’re working! I’m getting old, so those long nights can sometimes make mornings a little less motivating! Stacking games on the weekend, with proper preparation (hydration, snacks, sleep) can be a good way to build some savings. Make sure you’re able to handle as much baseball as you’re assigned, remember we’re on the field for the players and need to be ready for anything.

Presidents Message
If you hadn’t noticed, I kind of like the game of baseball. I like watching it, I like rooting for the Nats, and I like umpiring. Now that it’s summer, I also like watching our umpires do their thing. From time to time, you’ll see me at Cap One Field or Patriot Park or some other place just to watch the umpires work.
Rules
In standard NFHS games, we know that the moment a pitcher balks, the ball becomes dead. Nothing that happens after the balk is considered, and each runner is then awarded one base. However, when we venture outside of the standard NFHS ruleset…
Special Article
One of the most important disciplines an umpire can develop is maintaining professional distance during the course of a game. Players are not our friends. Coaches are not our friends. Fans are certainly not our friends.
Umpire Profile
Blue Crew Blues
Blues, where do we begin with Collin Agee? There’s just so much there. It’s kinda like Mardi Gras. Which way do we turn? And there’s no such thing as a bad turn. Collin’s been a top flight umpire with NVBUA for a quarter century. “I love it! It’s been very rewarding,” he explains. As a young man, growing up in Cleveland and western New York State, Collin was an ace baseball pitcher and slugger. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point.

We are always searching for action photos and videos of our umpires on the field. We can use them in an upcoming issue of BCN or display them at the year-end banquet.
