Greetings My Fellow Men in “Blue”,
We’ve been working hard to wrap up a successful spring season here at BCN. It’s been a bit since I’ve been at the helm for an issue, but Robert deserves time to travel with his family! We’re all human after all!
Summer ball is in full swing and what I’ve seen is that it changes what time you’re working, not always how much you’re working! I’m getting old, so those long nights can sometimes make mornings a little less motivating! Stacking games on the weekend, with proper preparation (hydration, snacks, sleep) can be a good way to build some savings. Make sure you’re able to handle as much baseball as you’re assigned, remember we’re on the field for the players and need to be ready for anything.
This month, El Presidente chimes in with really great thoughts on improvement. Dave discusses the ways we can all improve! Camp or no camp, that is the question? Check out his article here.
Bob Nasser and his team come through with something we see in Summer ball and men’s leagues….. The balk that’s not immediately dead. Changes lots of things, but we’ll be ready because this submission is spot on. Read Bob’s article here.
We have another installment from The Complaint Department. This issue Norm and Steve discuss a discipline all umpires need to develop. Learn what it is here.
Gary Reals found a guy who’s been dedicated to the game for a really long time, both as a player and an umpire. Collin Agee is the subject of this month’s profiling, and it’s a great read. Collin, thank you for your service to both the country and the game! Read here.
The mechanics team is off this month, but I assume they’ll be back with a vengeance next month! Enjoy the break!
Last thing I’ve got is….we’re almost halfway through our baseball calendar, and it’s obviously the hottest! Keep hydrated, stay safe, teach new guys, learn stuff yourself, and enjoy your summer!
In baseball we trust,
Michael
